This Artful Nomad travel guide details a 9-day route between Caye Caulker and San Ignacio Belize; Flores, Guatemala; and the ancient Mayan city of Tikal in Guatemala.
Your trip starts in Belize City and wends through the countryside to clever little San Ignacio near the Mountain Pine Ridge. There, we’ll connect you with some great adventures, some comfortable places to stay, internet cafes and tasty restaurants.
Then you’ll cross the Guatemalan border on your way to the lovely city of Flores, an old Spanish colonial town heaped on an island in Lake Peten Itza. From there you catch a bus and jostle out to one of the coolest day-trips in Central America: the ancient Mayan ruins of Tikal.
After mingling with howler monkeys and climbing around towering stone pyramids it’s by bus back to Belize City where a water taxi sports you out to Caye Caulker. Perched alongside Belize’s Great Barrier Reef, Caye Caulker offers up jaw dropping dives and snorkeling trips, sailing outings, sport fishing, etc. as well as providing a steady supply of tasty seafood barbeques, cold beers, ginger chai, etc.
The ancient Mayan ruins of Tikal in Guatemala and the charming Belizean island of Caye Caulker are superb bookends to a super-fun 9-day trip in Central America.
An explorer's tattered manuscript comes to life in this spirited and illustrative book.
The Monteverde Cloud Forest, Volcano Arenal, Tortuguero National Park and the beach towns of Montezuma and Manuel Antonio highlight this trip. Coming in 2007.
